General Info
The John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield opened in 1994 to accommodate both Huddersfield Town FC and the Huddersfield Giants rugby league team, both of whom used to play at Leeds Road nearby.

The stadium started life as the Kirklees Stadium, named for the council which part owns it in a 40-40-20 split with Town and the Giants respectively, before being known as the McAlpine Stadium, the Galpharm Stadium and now the John Smith’s Stadium due to sponsorship and naming rights having been granted.John Smith’s Stadium

The stadium hosted its first game in August 1994 when the Terriers lost 1-0 to Wycombe Wanderers in the Second Division – which shows how far Huddersfield have come – this in front of only 13,000 supports which is around half the crowd they attract these days.

February 2017 saw the stadium’s record attendance for a football match set at 24,129 in the FA Cup when Manchester City were the visitors, though they have repeatedly come close to this figure during their Premier League season of 2017/18.

Resisting the temptation to go with modern synthetic fibres, Huddersfield town have an entirely natural grass pitch which utilises a good undersoil heating system to keep games on in the winter months.  The playing surface measures 105 metres by 69 metres, standard for a top flight club.

Capacity
24,100 can cram into the John Smith’s on matchday to create an excellent atmosphere.

Stands
The John Smith’s Stand (South Stand) and the Fantastic Media Stand (North) are behind the goals while the pitch length is lined by the Direct Golf Stand lower and upper tiers, otherwise known as the Main Stand or West Stand and the Britannia Rescue Stand to the East.

Away Fans At The John Smith’s Stadium
With a generous allocation of 4,000 for Premier League games, away fans at the John Smith’s are housed in what is essentially the whole of the South Stand.  Away fans have routinely commented that despite their being gaps in the corners between the four stands, noise levels and atmosphere here are top notch.

Ticket Prices
Prices for a typical Premier League match at the John Smith’s Stadium are £15 for under-18’s, £20 for over-60’s and £30 for adults in most parts of the ground.  This makes them one of the more reasonable Premier League teams to watch on their home ground.

Hospitality
Guests are welcomed into a range of lounges and suites such as the Premier Lounge, the White Rose Club, the Heritage Suite and the Ray Wilson suite.  Packages are typically priced at around £1,250 – £2,500 plus VAT for 10 guests.

How To Get To The John Smith’s Stadium
Very much located within the town of Huddersfield, the John Smith’s Stadium is north east of the centre but will take only around 10 or 15 minutes to walk to from there.  Direct trains to Huddersfield station from Manchester and Leeds providing excellent links from outside of the town.

Arriving at the stadium by car is easy; using the M62 from the north and west or the M1 from the east, follow any signs for Huddersfield into the town before then following signs for the stadium.

Future Developments
In terms of its structure, the John Smith’s Stadium can be extended to house thousands more fans, but such expansion according to the club would only happen if they retained their Premier League status and sold out the ground every week for years, factors which make expansion unlikely.
